1cUDarE – this and similar words in all the caraNams ending with ‘E’ (pankE-ruhamulE, nAdamulE, telupE, nalupE etc.) is gender declension - form of addressing a female companion; this is similar to addressing male companion with ‘rA’ – at the end of the word. Such words cannot be adequately translated into English because gender declension does not exist in English grammar.

SrI tyAgarAja uses ‘rA’ in many kRtis to address rAma. This shows the intimacy of relationship. However, I have used ‘polite’ terminology for translation – as ‘ayya’.

Background – gOpis come to yamunA bank with the intention of meeting kRshNa. In this kRti, the joy of gOpis, about the surroundings conducive to such a meeting with their lover, is depicted.
